Computed tomography (CT) combines highly sophisticated x-ray equipment and computer processing. CT can show several types of tissue—lung, bone, soft tissue and blood vessels—with great clarity. It can be used to identify injuries and disease as well as to rule out illness or other medical conditions.
A CT scan is painless, but it will require that you are able to lie still on a scanning bed. Although the actual scans are very fast, you may spend between 10 and 20 minutes on the scanning bed, depending upon the type of exam. While most patients lie on their backs, your position may vary depending on the type of CT exam you are having.
We may ask you to drink a flavored oral contrast before the study, and/or you may need an intravenous (IV) contrast injection during the study.
Wear comfortable, loose clothing. You may be asked to change into a gown as some exams may have specific requirements. We provide lockers for your belongings.

Depending upon your age and health history, you may also be asked to have your BUN and creatinine blood levels checked prior to your exam. For your convenience, Medical Imaging on 1st can provide this quick test at the time of your appointment, saving you an additional trip to a lab.
Your exam will be interpreted by a board certified radiology physician from TRA Medical Imaging. Your report will be sent to your referring physician or healthcare practitioner who will review your results with you.
